Mercury poisoning is a significant health threat for more and more people, despite the fact that its symptoms often go unrecognized as coming from that toxic metal.
In modern times, we no longer have hat makers using mercury (which is where the phrase 'mad as a hatter' originated). Nor do we have doctors treating syphilis with mercury. Yet we are exposed in ways that are less obvious than those two example. Still, they are still just as harmful, especially because mercury toxicity is cumulative.
